CADCA & APA

The Community Counseling Institute is a Member of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) an organization that supports drug-free communities and the American Psychological Association in support of professional development.

Drug-Free Grant

Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the project goals of the Prevent! Tacoma DFC grant are to: 

  • Increase community collaboration, and 
  • Prevent and reduce youth substance use and related risk behaviors. 

The project is intended to produce measurable outcomes in the four core measures of: 

  • Past 30-day use; 
  • Perception of harm of substances by youth; 
  • Perception of harm of substances by peers; 
  • Perception of harm of substances by parents/caregivers. 

STOP ACT Grant

Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)  with the focus on prevention of underage drinking. This SAMHSA grant helps the community to focus on the prevention of alcohol use by youth by increasing community collaboration across the 12 sectors.  


SAMHSA helps focus on the prevention of substance use among youth by increasing community collaboration and preventing and reducing related risk behaviors. The coalition is governed by representatives from 12 sectors that include: youth, parents, business, media, schools, youth-serving agencies, law enforcement, faith-based organizations, civic groups, healthcare, local government, and non-profit agencies.

The Community Counseling Institute is here to help special populations in need:

Youth with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health) 

  • Ethnic and racial minority youth, LGBTQ populations 
  • Young parents 
  • Youth who have experienced homelessness 
  • Youth who have been in detention or long-term confinement
